Fatal Lithium Battery Factory Fire in South Korea

On 24 June 2024, lithium battery cells caught fire and exploded inside the warehouse of a battery factory in South Korea, leading to a massive workplace fire that killed 23 workers.

The WSH Council calls on all companies that import, manufacture, handle, use or store lithium batteries to understand the risks posed by these batteries and put in place controls to protect workers from harm and prevent a similar industrial accident.
