On 5 June 2025, a group of stakeholders brainstormed ideas to foster closer rapport and collaboration to enhance Design for Safety (DfS) implementation in the construction industry.
Mr Tan Swee Yiow, Chairman of the WSH Council (Construction and Landscape) Committee, shared in his opening remarks how DfS has transformed the way we approach workplace safety in the construction industry. He added that more could be done in our pursuit to better WSH performance and outcomes.
Participants engaged in lively discussions and reviewed three broad topics:
- Process and Implementation Challenges
- Competencies and Knowledge
- Awareness/Engagement and Responsibility
In his closing remarks, Mr Chan Yew Kwong, Senior Consultant at the WSH Council, aptly summed up three key takeaways:
- Developers: Focus engagement with developers to enhance the value proposition of DfS in the Built Environment value chain.
- Format: Improve DfS review processes to better guide stakeholders’ understanding and implementation of DfS.
- Sustainability: Enhance the competency framework of DfS professionals and promote continuous sharing of knowledge and best practices to ensure sustainable implementation of DfS.
Participants found the session useful as practical strategies and tips were shared so that DfS processes could be better implemented at worksites.
