On 20 November 2023, Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State (MOS) for Manpower, launched the Well-being Champions Network during its inaugural engagement session organised by the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council and the Ministry of Manpower.

During the session that was attended by over 50 founding members of the Network, participants shared that mental health at the workplace is key to ensuring not just the overall well-being of workers, but also in improving productivity and encouraging healthy collaborations.

Ms Colyn Chua, Head of MINDSET, Jardine Matheson Singapore, highlighted the shift in attitudes towards mental health, noting the growing openness among younger workers. Building on Ms Chua’s comment, Mr Aslam Sardar, Chief Executive of the Institute for Human Resource Professionals, stressed the need to break the taboo around mental health through raising awareness so as to create a safe space for discussions and learning. Mr Paul Fong, Country Director of Dow Chemical Pacific (Singapore and Malaysia), supports the Network as a platform for sharing best practices.

During the event held at PSB Academy, MOS Gan also announced the expansion of Tripartite Advisory (TA) on Mental Health and Well-being, which now includes mental well-being practices that are reasonable and meaningful to be implemented at workplaces, such as setting up of peer support systems and hiring of individuals with mental health conditions who are job-ready.
