Themed “Industry Transformation for Innovation, Sustainability and Safety”, the Singapore Logistics and Crane Carnival 2023 was organised on 30 September 2023 to raise awareness on logistics and crane operations, showcase related career pathways and highlight the importance of WSH in these industries.

In his Welcome Remarks, Mr Samuel Siew, Chairman of the WSH Council (Crane and Lifting) Taskforce, expressed concern on the Transportation and Storage industry being among the top contributors to workplace fatalities, and the seven crane-related dangerous occurrences that had already occurred in the first half of 2023, compared to 15 for the whole of 2022. He called on the industry to strengthen their WSH ownership and encouraged companies to participate in the industry-led Safety Time-Out.

Mr Siew also announced the release of a new WSH Guidelines on Lifting Plan Development that provides guidance and practical considerations when developing a lifting plan. The Guidelines also explains the essential components and factors needed to ensure that lifting operations are carried out safely.

Mr Desmond Tan, NTUC’s Deputy Secretary-General, graced the event and encouraged workers to feel safe to report any workplace safety concerns to the management and urged companies to take all feedback seriously.

More than 400 participants, including industry partners, supporting organisations, their families and members of the public, attended the Carnival. Many visited the exhibition booths, attended the career fair and viewed the outdoor display of cranes and vehicles equipped with the latest WSH technology.

The Carnival was organised by the Singapore Cranes Association, Singapore Logistics Association, Singapore Transport Association and Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore), and supported by the Workplace Safety and Health Council and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).
