The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI), in collaboration with the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council, held the ASMI WSH Seminar on 11 January 2023. 

In his Opening Address, Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State of Manpower, reiterated his concerns about workplace fatalities in 2022. While the WSH track records for the marine industries improved after the Heightened Safety Period was introduced, Mr Zaqy cautioned that we should not let our guard down. The improvement seen by the marine industries demonstrated that when companies are committed to WSH, accidents and fatalities can be prevented. 

At the seminar, the revised WSH Guidelines on the Implementation of WSH Management Systems for Marine Industries was launched. The Guidelines provides guidance to marine companies on how to develop an effective and comprehensive process for managing WSH by highlighting the importance of leadership, workers’ participation and good industry practices.
