The 9th Asian Conference on Safety & Education in Laboratory (ACSEL) was jointly held with the 5th NUS Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Conference on 18 November 2022, with the theme “Reinventing Safety & Health for a Resilient Tomorrow”. The Conference saw about 200 local and regional delegates, from countries including Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, collaborating and sharing practices and research on future-ready safety and health systems.

Guest of Honour Mr Christopher Koh, General Manager of the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council, shared his reflections on how Singapore had been and still is “reinventing safety and health” since the major accidents of 2004.  Through close partnerships with the Institutes of Higher Learning, the WSH Council is today seeding a more “resilient tomorrow”, by investing in the WSH capabilities of students who will be our future corporate leaders.

Keynote speaker Dr Peck Thian Guan, Senior Director and Deputy Chief Risk Officer of NUS, shared his vision for safety and health. He inspired the audience to appreciate the past and present WSH developments, and advised them to be cognisant of changing technologies and characteristics of the new workplace and its WSH needs.

Over 15 speakers shared their expertise on a range of topics, including Safety and Health Education, Occupational Hygiene, Total Workplace Safety and Health, Mental Well-being, Environmental Protection, Laboratory Safety and Health Management, Emergency and Disaster Management, Accident and Incident Management, and Sustainable Safety and Health Practices, throughout the Conference.
