Workplace Fairness

A one-stop resource page for employers and individuals to learn more about the upcoming Workplace Fairness Act (WFA) and what to expect.

Parliament passed the Workplace Fairness bill on 8 January 2025 and the Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill on 4 November 2025. Together, these Bills strengthen efforts to ensure fair and harmonious workplaces in Singapore and set out the process for individuals to make claims against firms if they experience workplace discrimination.

The Workplace Fairness Act (WFA) protects employees from discrimination based on protected characteristics such as:

  1. Age
  2. Nationality
  3. Sex, marital status, pregnancy status, and caregiving responsibilities
  4. Race, religion, and language
  5. Disability and mental health conditions

Under the WFA, it is illegal to make adverse employment decisions based on protected characteristics when hiring or conducting performance reviews, training, promotions, and dismissals.

The Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices (TGFEP) will continue to address workplace discrimination based on other characteristics. This ensures fair and merit-based employment practices in Singapore.
