New Tripartite Alliance Award Recognises Employers Who Place People At The Heart Of Their Business

14 Nov 2018Press Releases

The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) today announced the presentation of the inaugural Tripartite Alliance Awards to 24 organisations and 8 individuals.

Conferred by the tripartite partners (Ministry of Manpower, National Trades Union Congress, and Singapore National Employers Federation), the new Tripartite Alliance Award recognises exemplary organisations that have effectively implemented fair, responsible and progressive employment practices, while keeping employees at the heart of their progress.

A total of 152 organisations were nominated for the Tripartite Alliance Awards by their employees or unions. From these nominated organisations, 41 organisations were shortlisted as finalists, and 24 emerged as winners.

Out of these 24 organisations, half (12 out of 24) were small and medium enterprises. This shows that organisational size is not a barrier to fair and progressive employment practices.

“The Tripartite Alliance Award is unlike your usual award. It is a collective endorsement by the tripartite partners after careful assessment of the nominees and their practices. It also reflects the voices of the employees, who have told us that they are happy and proud to be working for their employers. We hope that, in time to come, the Tripartite Alliance Award will be seen as the definitive recognition of excellence in fair and progressive employment,” said Mr Stephen Lee, Chairman, Tripartite Alliance Limited.

The Tripartite Alliance Award builds upon two previous awards presented by TAFEP—the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award and the Work-Life Excellence Award — to provide a more holistic assessment of an organisation’s employment practices.

In addition, all participating organisations in the Award have to be adopters of the Tripartite Standards, and signed TAFEP’s Employers’ Pledge of Fair Employment Practices. There is high expectation for these organisations to have strong fundamentals across all key aspects of employment and be fully committed to the implementation of fair and progressive practices.

“Working for an employer who treats our workers fairly, being committed to their growth and success, is crucial for both our workers and businesses. As employment and business models become more fluid in our future economy, we have to do more to safeguard and advance our workers’ interests. Through the Tripartite Alliance Award, we recognise employers who have put in place fair and progressive practices for our workers. I hope this will inspire more to become better employers so that more workers and businesses can benefit,” said Ms Mary Liew, President, National Trades Union Congress.

The Tripartite Alliance Award recognises organisations’ differing strengths through the following Award categories (in alphabetical order):

  1. Age Inclusive Practices
  2. Fair and Progressive Employment Practices
  3. Responsible Best Sourcing1
  4. Work-Life Excellence

It also pays tribute to individuals who have been instrumental in the creation of a fair and progressive workplace culture, through the Leadership and Workplace Advocate Awards. Special Mention awards are also conferred on organisations or individuals who were pivotal in the transformation of their organisations.

“The awards highlight that employers which have excelled in the responsible employment practices identified by TAFEP can overcome greater challenges and achieve better and sustainable outcomes for both the business and employees.” said Dr Robert Yap, President, Singapore National Employers Federation.
